Masada stands in the middle of the desert, isolated and protected by the fields of dry land and stones that stretch around her as far as the eye can see. Overlooking the Dead Sea this fortress was built to protect Herod the Great and his troops as early as 37 BC. 80 years later, during the Great Jewish Revolt against the Romans, Jewish rebels fled to this city of stone where they swore to make their final stand.

Take some water with you and be ready to sweat, as the steaming weather will make the climb much harder.
